VOCAL COACHING
Vocal coaching
(online or in person)
Whether you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced singer, there’s always so much more about your voice to explore!
During our lessons, you’ll deepen your understanding of different aspects of the voice like vocal techniques, how to use your voice in a healthy way, and explore your vocal range. I strongly believe that every voice and every singer is different, which is why I tailor the lessons to every individual's needs, goals, and interests.
We’ll work with songs from genres you enjoy and use them as a way to develop your voice, while also stepping outside your comfort zone from time to time. Exploring new sounds can be a fun way to discover what your voice is capable of.
Whatever your musical taste, you’re very welcome.
Below, you can find information about the more specific vocal techniques and areas I offer lessons in:
Metal/Rock vocals
Want to learn how to make those gritty, primal sounds you hear in Metal or Rock music but don’t know where to start? Or have you been experimenting with growls, distortion or screams, but keep running into the same problems?
Learning these sounds on your own can be fun, but it can also be frustrating. Without the right guidance, it’s easy to strain your voice or get stuck because you can’t tell what’s going wrong.
YouTube tutorials can only take you so far. They can show you how something is done, but they can’t hear what you are doing or give you exercises tailored to your voice.
In lessons, we’ll explore different techniques for creating growls, distortion and screams, while learning what’s actually happening in your voice anatomically. You’ll develop a better understanding of your instrument and learn to recognise what feels and sounds right.
Vocal liberation
A lot of people feel deeply inhibited in using their voice. During our lessons, you will discover how to express your voice more freely. Whether that means singing, speaking your mind, setting boundaries, or simply daring to be present with your own sound.
We will be using different singing techniques to break through the bariers you might be feeling.
Letting your voice be heard is a right for everyone.
Kulning
Kulning is a high, piercing, calling technique once used by women in medieval Scandinavia mainly to call their cattle across vast landscapes.
When I first heard kulning, I was immediately brought to tears by its beauty as well as feeling some kind of ancient recognition for these sounds. It’s an extremely liberating feeling to make your voice sound across fields, forest, mountains, or.. your living room!
While learning the proper techniques to be able to make such a carrying, big sound, you’ll also learn how to improvise in the ‘herding song key’.
A crucial step to being able to kulning for as long as you want.
Here you can schedule your online or in-person lessons. Feel free to first book a trial lesson at a reduced rate.

Micky is known as vocalist of the Dutch, dark-folk group Sowulo and works as a singing teacher and vocal coach.
She specializes in traditional- and metal vocal techniques as well as vocal liberation.
With 10 years of experience guiding students, Micky helps people let their voices sound freer, stronger, and more authentic in a safe environment, so they can sing and speak more confidently in any situation.
After years of singing along to her favorite CDs as a child, Micky joined her first band at the age of 12, and has never been without one since. Over the years, she explored a wide range of genres and vocal styles as a member of bands such as symphonic metal band End of the Dream, avant-garde band Porselain, and dark-folk group Sowulo.
Alongside her work with these bands, Micky has also taken on a variety of other musical projects, like writing vocals for the Tomorrowland Mainstage, performing as a soloist with the Symphony of Unity orchestra at Tomorrowland and the Arena di Verona and being part of Marcela Bovio’s ‘‘Harmonies Unveiled’’ EP and shows.
While still studying vocals at the Metal Factory (2015 to 2018), Micky started teaching singing. What started as a way to earn an income through music, quickly grew into a passion. She discovered how much of a difference the right guidance can make, not only in someone's voice, but also in their confidence and the way they express themselves.
Today, Micky combines her experience as a performer with her passion for teaching. Whether you're looking to develop your vocal technique, explore new styles, or simply feel more confident when singing, she is here to help you to explore your voice.
